Nikola was born July 10 1856 in Croatia. His father was an orthodox priest and his mother was an unschooled but very intelligent women. During school he began experimenting with alternating currents. He was ridiculed in college by his professors for his ideas and dropped out of school. He relocated to Paris to work for the continental Edison company(Bernard 2010). A year late he moved to France where he built the first prototype of alternating current motor. He than approached wealthy businessmen who could afford to fund him but they couldn’t understand the device and rejected it. He figured the only way to realize his dreams was to meet world's greatest electrical engineer Thomas Edison. So he decided to move to NYC to meet Edison.
