Nikola Tesla Research Paper

Nikola Tesla was a powerful scientific mind of the 19th century, specifically, “one of the most outstanding pioneers in the electric power field and in the development of radio” (“Tesla, Nikola”). Tesla began his life as a young Croatian boy, detached from the world, who dreamt of inventing. He later came to America in pursuit of his own American Dream, and in the process paved the road for modern electricity and radio communication. (“Nikola Tesla”). Tesla’s genius ideas are credited to many of the amenities that the modern world takes for granted (Goldman). Several road blocks in Nikola’s social life and career made it difficult for him to gain the recognition he deserved. Nonetheless, he was determined to change the world with his work. Today, the science community acknowledges Tesla’s importance. There are certain discrepancies about his childhood, due to the fact that he was born so long ago in 1856. For example, some sources claim he was born late July 9 (“Nikola Tesla”), while others list July 10 as his birth date (“Nikola Tesla Bio”). Tesla’s parents, Milutin Tesla and Djuka Mandic, had four other children, Dane, Angelina, Milka and Marica. Together they lived on a farm in the countryside of what is now Smiljan, Croatia (“Nikola Tesla”). Nikola’s father was an Orthodox priest who often urged Nikola to become a priest as well. However, “Nikola's interests lay squarely in the sciences” (“Nikola Tesla Bio”). It was Nikola’s mother, an inventor herself, who sparked his interest in inventing and engineering (“Nikola Tesla Bio”). In his pursuit of knowledge, he attended Technical University in Graz, Austria and the University of Prague in 1880. He then immigrated to New York City with “nothing but four cents and his ideas”, marking the beginning of his career
