It brought much controversy to the public and how Nike is making their products. In the following year, it was showed that the workers in Vietnam were exposed to toxic fumes everyday. For years, it has been known about what Nike does, but still continue these horrible actions. We are still waiting for Nike to follow up on the promises made three years ago by the company’s chair man, Phil Knight. Never has he done the promise to over haul the appalling conditions faced by the workforce. Nike is one of the world’s top sports clothing brands. This is dodging them out for their allegations about the sweatshops and child labor. Workers in Indonesia are being physically and mentally abused. It is inhumane for supervisors to throw shoes at the workers, slap them in the face, kick them, and call them animals. Nike has admitted to the abuse but claim they can’t do anything to stop it, that is absurd. They admitted finding abusive treatment physically and orally. The complaints ranged from workers that exceeded more than 60 hours and forced not to go the restroom. There wasn’t an insurance that factories pay legal compensation, elimination of force overtime, providence of child care, beatings by security guards and abusive treatment. These are all problems evident, but there are more than that to be visited. Also, the elimination of child labor and undertake on safety precautions. All of these things weren’t happening, but should’ve been handled humanely. People in Indonesia are trying to survive off a $1.25 a day salary. Men and women are getting sick, and have to sacrifice their diet to buy medicine. Injustice, they are being taken advantage of an is incredibly unfair. They work so long, too hard, and are paid so little. The workers have no choice because they have to provide for themselves and their families. Nike brought many jobs to Southeast Asia, however, they weren’t creating jobs for opportunities and prosperity, and giving jobs to pull people out of poverty. There has been strikes against wage violations. Over 10,000 people were participated in protest over hazardous working conditions.
