Nike Soccer Advertisement Analysis Essay

Smoke, fire, and explosions, all of which are coming from one of the world’s top soccer players wearing a pair of new soccer cleats. Christiano Ronaldo is wearing a brand new pair of Nike’s new “Mercurial Vapor 8” soccer cleats. Can these cleats really give you the “explosive speed” Nike advertises? Probably not, but the Nike soccer advertisement does have a lot more to it. While some realities are portrayed in this advertisement, it is partly misleading due to the setting, the unrealistic effects Nike uses, and the idea that you will become as fast as the player wearing them.

The setting displayed in this advertisement is interesting. Nike is aiming at a professional feeling atmosphere to further the idea that these cleats will help you play like a professional. It appears to be in a large stadium, which looks to have a turf surface. The time of day is night, the background is dark and there are bright stadium lights shining on the field. In reality,

It catches your eye immediately with all of the glaring effects like the flares, explosions, fire, and smoke. If you are a soccer fan you will immediately recognize the player wearing them. It does an outstanding job of portraying an image of what a soccer player would like to be. Even though the advertisement does its job, I believe it is much more fictitious than real. When purchasing these cleats you should not have many expectations other than things such as comfort, weight, and flexibility. There is not any type of equipment that can actually make you that much better of a player. All in all, I find this a great advertisement by Nike, who typically does a great job of marketing their products. They give the consumer an appealing advertisement, which features a player millions of soccer fans and players idolize. People will understand that the cleats will not actually give you the “explosive speed” they are advertising so that should not turn away a
