The churches taught that the planets orbit around the Earth since God would be in the middle of the Universe and God’s greatest creation (humans) would also be in the center. Some scientist though decided to challenge this theory and say that the sun was in the middle and the planets orbited around that. One individual named Galileo was able to prove that the church was wrong, in order to get his information out into the public, breaking laws and going against authority had to occur. In this situation laws were created to keep the Catholic church in power, but also to mentally harm the people with not giving them a voice or real learning opportunities. Why is it important to document hidden histories? Before viewing Slavery by Another Name (2012), I was not fully aware of the atrocities committed against African Americans after slavery had been abolished. I knew that newly freed slaves had a hard time adjusting to freedom, but I never fathomed the oppression and torment they were subjected to as free Americans. My history classes throughout my education never included information regarding involuntary servitude and laws that were created to deliberately re-enslave African Americans and prevent them from having mobility.…

Another way that this film challenges hegemonic ideas of the black community is through character development. While the antagonists of the film are depicted as ruthless criminals at times, they are developed as multi-dimensional. There are scenes in the movie that show the criminals as having a sense of humor, a sense of reason, and empathy, including a short scene involving the criminals having a fairly civilized debate about foreign affairs. This kind of depiction shows that even the antagonists of the film are humans and that they are not just…

Legality ≠ Morality “One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws” (MLK, 191-193). The world is not perfect, it is flawed and has many things that need to be changed, including the unjust laws that are inflicted onto society. If no one makes a stand for these issues that “[are] out of harmony with the moral law”, things will not go anywhere, and the world will stay where it is.…

Law and order are threatened as these “lawbreakers” continue to run rampid through the streets, according to Frank Trippett’s “A Red Light for Scofflaws”. Many people have become careless about the law and it results to them breaking the law, causing accidents, and becoming scofflaws. Many of the laws, like littering or speeding, are considered “minor” laws, and therefore, these are the laws that are broken more often. When they don’t see the consequences of breaking these laws, it could lead them to believe that “you’re a fool if you obey the rules”.…
