Night Surf Character Analysis

There are a lot of characters in the story, but the most important character or the main character in my opinion was Bernie. I think Bernie is important because he was in the story from the beginning till the end, also I think he was the strongest and the most independent character out of the group. Also, Bernie has a special story with each member of the group that made his character very interesting and strong. Night surf, is a story of group of teenagers who are trying to survive a very dangerous kind of flu called A6. This virus, whipped out a lot of people, and they burned on of the group members (Alvin) because they thought that he had this virus. He was needle’s closest friend, he wasn’t a part of the group, they picked him up and added him to the group. Needles got the a6 flu when Bernie said, “needles has got A6” (pg.59), after he set Alvin on fire with his Zippo lighter, when Bernie said, “Needles lit the pyre with his Zippo.” Alvin was the first one who got the a6 flu, he kept crying for his grandmother because he thinks that Susie is his grandmother, and Susie kept laughing on him, she thinks that he is funny, that’s what Bernie said “he kept calling for his grandmother. That was seven years before the A6" (pg,58). He like to drink beer warm at the beach, because it has more foam than cold beer he mentioned that “I don’t mind warm beer like some people do” (pg.58), also he was dating Susie, Susie was fat and Bernie didn’t like that, Bernie said “she was getting fat” (pg.52) and also, he mentioned it again “Susie with her fat ass and her cranberry bellbottoms” (pg.53). she also was insecure, because she cries, ask for assurance a lot, and she always stays with Bernie because Bernie said that “Susie needed constant reassurance. I was her teddy bear.” (pg.52). He always gets annoyed by Susie, because she did stuff that he hates for example “she was wearing one of my shirts. I hate that. she sweats as a pig” (pg.59). She loves him, but he doesn’t like her a lot because she is so annoying, and he mentioned his old girlfriend Maureen, she was chubbier than Susie “she was a big girl” (pg.58), but he seemed to like Maureen more than Susie, because he mentioned her in the middle of the story and he was remembering the days when they used to go to the beach after school “I was going with a girl named Maureen”
