The Social Climbers

In the animal kingdom monkeys are one of the most intelligent beings that reside here on planet earth. From their opposable thumbs to their large brains that improves their cognitive ability and overall inquisitiveness makes them quite incredible creatures. One of the monkeys that was depicted within the video “The Social Climbers” was that of the Pygmy Marmoset. This incredible creature is said to be the smallest monkey at all. The Pigmy is so small that their size inhibits them from grasping objects with their feet. They as well have needle sharp claws that enable them to climb trees and live above ground. Their diet and staple food consists of tree sap and gum. Abnormally sharp teeth allow them the opportunity to penetrate the wood of the tree and get to the sap. Interestingly enough Owl monkeys collect their food at night and in doing so are the only monkeys to perform this very action. By coming out to feed at night they are able to avoid the daytime commotion and eat in peace. This as well disallows the possibility of any competition for viable food sources between other species of monkeys which in turn speeds up the feeding process. Contrary to popular belief you would think a large eyed nocturnal animal would have exceptional eyesight, but for the Owl monkey that is not the case. Most monkeys as well spend half of every day just lying around and digesting food solely because leaves are not very nutritious and takes a long time to digest.
