Most likely, this was due to the fact that he alone kept all his promises, as Eliezer mentioned. Adolf Hitler made the promise to wipe out the Jewish people – a promise he remained true to in Eliezer’s duration at the camps. Many Jews in the concentration camps began to have doubt in even God. They asked where He was in their time of need. Many wondered why they remained to have faith in a god who did not aid them; meanwhile the evil man name Hitler remained true to his promises. “I have more faith in Hitler than anyone else. He alone has kept his promises, all his promises, to the Jewish people (Wiesel 77).” Hitler killed thousands, no millions, of Jews from the beginning of the war to liberation. Somehow along the way, Eliezer lost a large enough amount of his faith in God and his father to consider Hitler to be the man he held the most faith in. That alone shows what concentration camp can reduce one to.
