On page 99 there is foreshadowing going on because Elie’s father almost dying is foreshadowing his own death later on in the book. “... two [gravediggers] approached my father. I threw myself on his body. He was cold… I yelled ‘He’s not dead! Not yet!’... I started to hit him harder and harder. At last, my father half opened his eyes.” Foreshadowing is meant to convey information that helps readers understand what is to come later on in the novel. This enhanced the writing of the novel by making the reader have to think more. This made it excellent because this made me predict what would happen next and to ask questions to myself like: Is he going to survive? Is he going to die? When? How?
