First off in the holocaust babies and children were thrown into the air and used as target practice, people were burned alive, and they were qut to work with little food and water. It was important to keep your hope. People had hope of seeing their family again, getting out alive, and getting back to their faith. Those who did not keep their faith had tragically died. In the book Eliezer and his father are separated from Eliezer’s mother and little sister. They come across a man who happens to be their relative and he asks about how his wife and children are doing. Earlier in the book he tries to help people keep their faith and hope in order to survive. “I can’t go on… It’s over… It’s over. God is no longer with us,” says Akiba Drummer. (Wiesel pg. 46)This quote shows a hope because the man has lost his share of faith. Hope and faith are connected on a weird way. If one has a faith that they believe in then when they believe in it then they also will have hope. He ended up being selected for the crematoriums.
