Night By Elie Wiesel Analysis

The Wiesel family was a small family from Sighet, Transylvania and in 1944 everything changed. The Wiesel family was sent to two ghettos, a small and a large. Then sent to a concentration camp to then be separated to only men and only women. In the concentration camps the jews were starved, beaten and forced to endure the harsh winter weather without proper clothes. Elie Wiesel used Irony, Imagery, and foreshadowing to show how the Jews were treated like in humans during the times they were in the camps. Elie Wiesel the author used foreshadowing as one literary device. Moishe the beadle was used to show that there were signs that the Jews would be rounded up and killed by the thousands to be killed. “Day after day, night after night, he went from one jewish house to the next telling his story (pg 7).” Moishe the beadle told one story that was extremely frightening. “The jews would dig massive trenches, then forced to approach the trench one by one, be shot and dumped into it (pg 6).” Mrs. Schächter was on the train with Elie and his family when they were being transported to Auschwitz. Mrs. Schächter had gone insane. Repeating the same line over and over “ Fire! I see a fire! I see a fire! The train Elie was on stopped in Birkenau. An officer told them that “ There was a work camp on site. The conditions were good. Families would not be separated (pg 27)”. Even though jews were told this, the SS officers would still spilt men and women. The Jews were told this to not try and revolt against the guards. Elie and his father were then transferred to Auschwitz. An iron gate with the overhead inscription on it “Work makes you free (pg 40)”.
