I can still remember my freshmen year when I was trying to get through a crowd of white people, and as I was trying to get through I got pushed to the side of the lockers and was called a “black monkey”. I was so shocked to be called that because it was the first time I ever experienced racial discrimination before in my life. You would probably think that would make me want to lash out, but honestly, it made me want to cry and want to try and change how society viewed and spoke to African Americans. “Nigga” started of as a word that was use to degrade blacks, however in the 2000s “nigga” turn into a way to basically say “hello” to one another. It also derived from white male slave owners, that would call their African American slaves so that they wouldn’t have to remember every slave 's name (Pilgrim).
