“Sunset.” I respond without thinking.
“For some reason it fit you. I would have thought you would name yourself china or booty luscious or some hood rat name. A stripper name Sunset, hmm I like.” I don’t know why I decided to call myself Sunset, probably because my whole world was left over at Sunset when I perform my last performance and Nino took me to a new world; his world.
We walk out and onto the stage behind the curtains. I watch as the girl before me was giving life to her body as she performs like a pro. The way her body was moving with the music was good, she had some upper body strength the way she was climbing that pole like her life was in danger.

I glance over at the crowd to see Nino right in front of the stage. I gasp.

The Tongue-Tied Sea Witch "Jackie," my mom chuckled, "you're going to do great, trust me. This is your passion - embrace it!" I winced, squirming in my seat, fingering the seatbelt nervously, " Yeah, I guess you're right - maybe I'll be the only one who even shows up..." Hurriedly, I buckled my seatbelt, placed in my keys in the ignition, and adjusted my rear view mirror. It was then, I caught a glimpse of the Victorian mansion across the street. I had almost forgotten about the arrangement I had grudgingly accepted to help clean the attic. But after a quick scan of my surroundings, I quickly realized the vicinity was absent of any dump truck. So maybe they forgot, I shrugged, hoping this piece of logic would justify my actions.…

My ears ring as the old school bus screeches to a halt. We hop off, and a dry, winter gust smacks my face. Instantly, the frigid wind sends my nose running. Walking towards the back door of the school, I grasp the cold metal handle, open it, and slam a piece of wood underneath to keep it ajar. After we become accustom to the cold shock, Mrs. Cimenski, our director, orders us to haul the heavy wooden tables and a set of four lockers toward our designated backstage area.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
