Nigeria is a nation situated in the West Africa. It shares borders with neighboring countries; in the North is Niger, Benin Republic on the West and in the East Cameroon and Chad. It has a coastal border lying on the gulf of Guinea. To its north-east axis lies Lake Chad. The country has a surface area of close to 923,772 km2. Being the most populated country in the continent of Africa, it hosts a population of approximately one hundred and forty people. The emphasis on the causes of gender roles is focused on the environment as a cause of the specific particular behaviors in learning the behavior of being male or female. Socialization effect also determines the type of behavior a child picks as they grow up to mature adults. In the U.S, there exists cultural groups; an acknowledged fact in one group may not be true for another group. Therefore there is no general view about gender roles that is universally acknowledged. The existence of nuclear family setups in the U.S builds the gender roles for the adult people in the marriages. The father is usually the one responsible for providing for his family and also looking for income. Men are the major participants in dealing with matters of family concerns. The men have always worked to earn income and this approach has always been the social system in the U.S. therefore, the male person is given the role of providing for the family. Women, on the other hand, focused on simple domestic chores such as childcare, housekeeping and education of children. Through the civilization transition in the 1980s, women started getting absorbed into the workforce and started taking responsibility in family providence. Patriarchy is a set of rules that give dominance to men to dominate over women. Men, in the past, were not doing tasks such as bringing up of a child. The task was entirely left to the woman alone to do it on herself. As a major part of the family unit, a man should take part in child rearing.
