Nigel Farage Argument Essay

Nigel Farage, a former UKIP party leader, attended a press conference in Germany to endorse the AfD (Alternative fur Deutschland) and join their anti-immigration campaign that aligns with his former party’s platform. Mocking the debate between the two German candidates Angela Merkel and Martin Schulz, Farage stated in the article that he wanted, “to get a proper debate going in the biggest, richest, most important and powerful country in Europe about not just the shape of Brexit but perhaps even the shape of the European project to come". Both Merkel and Schultz are running on, what in the United States would be considered, a far-left platform. Merkel is slightly more moderate coming from the Christian Democratic Union whilst Schulz would be comparable to Bernie Sanders in the United States, running on the Social Democratic Party. I agree completely with Farage that the lack of intellectual diversity in the election and debate is extremely concerning as Germany is a major player in Europe due to their big economy in comparison to the rest of the EU. It is not gender nor race nor sexual identity that breeds valuable diversity, but intellectual diversity as it guareteenes not only new ideas, but ideas present to be challenged; therefore, from this intellectual growth is possible.
