Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19th, 1473 in the city of Torun, located in Poland. He attended St. John's school at a young age. He later attended the University of Krakow to receive his collegiate degree. He left before receiving a degree when he was offered a chance to travel to Italy. In 1542, Copernicus was seized with apoplexy and paralysis. Copernicus died in May, one year later. Nicolaus Copernicus was an extremely successful scientist and astronomer who lived during the Renaissance. During this time period it was a common to believe that the Earth was at the center of the universe. It wasn’t until Copernicus proposed the heliocentric theory.
