Nicolas Cage Research Paper

Legendary acting teacher Constantin Stanislavski once wrote, “The artist of the stage must be the master of his own inspiration and must know how to call it forth when it is announced on the posters of the theatre. This is the chief secret of our art” (Stanislavski, 1936). When analyzing Nicolas Cage, it is clear that he provides his own inspiration; yet he does not receive the sort of recognition an actor of his talents might deserve. This leads to Nicolas Cage being one of the most polarizing actors of all time and yet I believe that Cage is perhaps also one of the greatest performers of his generation. My reasons for this are noted in Cage’s two academy awards and his ability to commit to every role he is put in. Also, when looking at a selected filmography, it is clear that he can create complex and interesting characters through ‘Method Acting’, the acting style the great Stanislavski developed himself. With a career lasting over thirty years in a creative field such as acting, some bad choices are to be made as well. For this reason, I will not judge an actor on the bad performances but praise him for his excellent ones.

This list includes: Brad Pitt, Leonardo Dicaprio, Johnny Depp, and Matt Damon. While one Oscar is not the ‘be all, end all’ of judging an actor’s abilities, it is to be noted that Cage was also nominated a second time for his work in the film “Adaptation”. A role in which the late Roger Ebert (2008)

There are particular films though that are just so iconic, that no matter how many time you see it, you would want to see it over and over again. One of the reasons for it is that there are characters in the films that are just too good not to get noticed. Actors are often offered to do a specific role, or sometimes they audition for it. However, not every actor could connect and put their characters into life.…
