Political cartoons during the late 19th century Gilded Age revealed, on a large scale, key issues at stake throughout the era. These drawings flourished in the 1860s due to advances in new technology of mass circulation and because people of all kinds; young, old, black, white, educated, illiterate could interpret the intense meaning from the artists. Cartoonists emerged by the names of Thomas Nast from Harper’s Weekly, Joseph Kepper of Puck, Frank Beard, Eugene Zimmerman, Grant Hamilton, etc. Most of these illustrators rose to the occasion to bring down the infamous Boss Tweed, who in 1861 begun his formation of the New York County Courthouse costing around 13 million dollars. City officials with a grudge against William M. Tweed provided…
The concept of "The Brady Bunch" started back in 1966 when Sherwood Schwartz (the creator and producer of the show) heard that somewhere between 20-30% of all families had at least one child from a previous marriage. The show was about a mother with three daughters by one marriage, marries a widower with three boys, a maid and a dog. The first season of The Brady Bunch focused on the newly blended family and the conflicts that arose from the merger. The family eventually learned to get a long as they knew more about each other. They all helped each other with their individual problems and went through their difficulties as a family.…
Who says that’s cartoons aren’t allowed to use profanity and make fun of today’s society? Family guy awakens the subconscious and make the conscious aware. Family guy may have some rated R episodes and jokes but if you look at the show at a deeper perspective than just a face value, you will see the insightful meaning. Based on Peacocke’s article I would recommend young adults and adults to watch the show Family guy. Peacocke talks about her own struggle with the shows seemingly offensive humor.…
Cartoon Language Analysis The cartoon I have chosen to do is The Lifeguard. It was created by artist Mark Knight. Mark Knight published this cartoon in the Herald Sun on 22 January 2014. On Cartoon Network, the smashing hit cartoon show Total Drama Island is a parody cartoon version of the reality show named Survivor. On the cartoon show, there are twenty-two teenagers that are trapped on a camp site called Camp Wananakwa, which is a rundown island. While the teenagers are there, they must learn to survive vigorous challenges, which are insanely dangerous every week, to win a quarter of a million dollars and be safe from elimination. There are two teams which are the Killer Bass and the Screaming Gophers. The losing team has to vote a camper off the island onto the “Boat of Losers onto the Dock of Shame.”…
Disney Channel UK broadcasts American series, Disney Channel Croatia is not a truly Croatian version of the American channel. Disney Channel Croatia does not consist of shows with Croatian actors, speaking the Croatian language, carrying out scripts relevant to the lives of Croats. It is just a piece of American media dubbed with the Croatian language. The programming schedule follows that of Disney Channel UK. Girl Meets World, I Didn’t Do It, and Jessie are popular shows on Disney Channel Croatia.…
These offensive lyrics aim to make people laugh and most importantly, to make people to discover the hidden meanings. Offensive humor is done by letting the viewer believing the joke is actually talking about something else or is the person who is supposed to be laugh at (Sienkiewicz & Marx, 2009).There are many individuals who after hearing the song condemn these lyrics as being powerful enough to incite a rebellion, whereas others will view the song as a satirical statement of the U.S. government operates today (Ricke, 2012). Shows like Family Guy are brewing a cultural rebellion. It shows that animated sitcoms play the role not only as a communication tool but also an interaction medium. Audience have a growing sense that anything goes mentality permeating our electronic culture, and electronic culture contributes to the moral crisis facing America.…
When I was much younger, I used to watch Nickelodeon all day. It was such an awesome channel; it provided anything a kid could want. I enjoyed coming home from elementary school Church street Elementary to be specific and spending my afternoon with "Doug" "Rugrats" and "Ren & Stimpy". Now that the years have gone by I am quite sad to see that Nickelodeon is a mere shell of its former self. Occasionally, I'll take a look at the channel, I wonder what today's kids must think of the mindless garbage that there force- fed by the once- great Nickelodeon.…
The research done in relation to anime and children’s aggressive behavior explains, “Most of the anime character shows a great skill of fighting, in which most of the students would learn and imitate from their observation through those programme” (Omar, Binti & Iza, Sallehuddin. 15). However, children learn a great deal of positive interaction lessons from the anime they watch. Anime characters are humble and courteous to one another. They use proper language and gestures during conversations whether it may be a friend or a foe. Likewise, research done on how children use media brands to cope with everyday life, states that, “The emotional affective attachment to the characters does not only allow them to actively and intensively deal with their topics, but also to feel strong and successful.…
Bullying in Pop Culture “Bullying was hideous and relentless, and we turned it round by making us celebrities” (Julian Clary). Simon Cowell on American Idol each week would stare at hopeful singers and without even blinking, he would dash the hope of these young people. He would do this with malice and without remorse, but in his defense says it was done in order to help them, but for many Americans it came off as an example of bullying by a man with power and influence. In recent years America has been on a crusade to stop bullying in all forms, but on television it is acceptable as long as it was profitable and makes good television. Simon was disliked for his actions, but American’s still tuned in to see what he would say.…
It is like this because the advertiser has the intentions to appeal a more mature audience on the adult networks and a younger audience on the networks…
As the popularity and proliferation of television increases, children are progressively exposed to programs which can influence the way in which they think and view both culture and gender. This essay will discuss the cartoon ‘Adventure Time with Finn and Jake’ focusing specifically on two episodes. In condensed terms ‘Adventure Time’ features Finn the Human Boy and his magical dog Jake, adventuring in the fantasy land of Ooo. Behind its bizarre plot and fantastical characters, hides an unexpected emotional intricacy, ‘Adventure Time’ seeks to teach good values, challenge heteronormativity and instill positive morals and life views. ‘Adventure Time’ positively promotes the breaking of gender roles and comments in its own way on societies…

Minions and Spongebob are both great animations. They are both well drawn and have a good storyline. They are both really funny too. Minions is the prequel to Despicable me and it is about how the minions and Gru meet. Spongebob is a TV show made in 1999 that is about a sponge that always gets into trouble.…
Gender roles in the media influence society greatly. Media has the ability to portray genders in ways that they really do not act in real life and American society. Even with reality shows, individuals in the shows put on an act in a way to persuade the audience’s mind to keep them watching. For this assignment I chose to watch two different shows that were on ABC Family. I was quick to learn that the “family channel” is not so much for the family.…
