When I went through the doors to where Nick Cave's Until art installation was located I felt that I was entering to a new world; a big shiny world. The fact that the art installation occupies most of the room and is very shiny gave me an impression of hope, but when I got closer to it that hope disappeared. I noticed that there were a lot of guns around me. Some of the guns where spinning around, and the others were just still. I felt that the guns that were not moving were pointing at me directly. At that moment, I felt guilty. I felt the injustice right in there because I did not do anything wrong to have guns pointing at me. The guns that were spinning around made me think about how the most vulnerable people can get shot at any moment. …show more content…
The chandeliers gave it a special touch because it made the could seem as a hopeful entrance. It made me think about heaven. Most people think or talk about heaven as a peaceful place where harm does not exist, but especially where everyone is accepted equally. After seeing all the objects that were in top of the cloud, many thoughts of integration came to my mind. I thought about how in heaven color does not really matter, everyone can still enjoy the same nature and the things that life has to offer. The sculpture of the black butterfly hunter that was in "heaven" looked like he was finally free, happy, and enjoying his life. It made me think about having a peaceful childhood. This also made me think about unification and that everyone is the same and deserve to be treated as such. After the cloud, there is this art made of hair beads, which has the symbol of a rainbow, peace, and happiness. I think that is what Cave wants to see for the black community, peace and …show more content…
He wonders if beyond the sky equality exist. The techniques that Cave uses to try and convey his message are old materials such as metallic lawn ornaments, ceramics, hair beads, and more. These techniques are effective because he uses old objects that are not seeing as much as before. He probably wanted to tell his audience that even though these objects are old, they still exist like the idea of racism. There is a long history about racism and its effects on society; this is something that cannot be forgotten that easily. I believe that the target audience is the criminal justice system because the name of the art installation is called Until, which he may be referring to the idea of a criminal case; innocent until proven guilty. Blacks make up a higher percentage in the prison population than any other racial group. It is widely known as well that police brutality is enforced against minority groups, especially black people. This is why I think the audience is the criminal justice system. The way that this can impact the experience of the installation is having people that work for the system feel guilty or attacked. Although, some people can feel different like wanting to take action against inequality among minority

In Plato’s work called The Republic in comparison to The Truman Show it is astonishing what similar concepts that can be concluded after having read and watched these two pieces. Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, which is a key part of his book The Republic, takes you into the journey of different stages of knowledge, which work together with the metaphysical world and epistemology. By Plato incorporating metaphors such as, fire, shadows, chains, prisoners, the cave, and real objects the connection with The Truman Show was made evident. In The Truman Show where you have similar key concepts of what is reality and what is not true there is Truman who is the star of a show from an island and the director Christof. In both of these works the concepts of mental and physical reality, humans portrayed as sponges, and that reality is more than the images seen in the world are thoroughly explained.…

Enlightening Experiences Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, was written many years ago, and it is still relevant in the classroom today. The validity of the literary piece is not what is in question, but rather the agreement within Plato’s observations. Throughout the piece, Plato describes a situation of prisoners that see shadows on a wall and perceive it to be reality due to a narrow minded perception of the real world. Unfortunately, the prisoners Plato is referring to are humans in the real world, and he is making the claim that humans should not accept the reality in which we live in.…

The cave dweller, upon exiting the cave, is blinded and is only able to come to see the true world slowly, just as humans are only able to slowly become enlightened after the first painful break from their ignorance. Once this former-prisoner is able to begin to see in the true light of the sun, he sees “shadows…, images… and other things in water” (68) before he can see these objects for what they really are. Though this would seem on the surface to be the same situation this prisoner left behind in the cave, it is not, for now, they are able to see reflections and shadows through pure sunlight, rather than by firelight. Eventually, as the prisoner’s eyes adjust, they are able to see real objects. This is representative of seeing the true forms of things through understanding, the highest form of cognition of Plato’s line.…

The Allegory of the Cave likens dialectical to a forced freedom from the cave into the glare of the sun or The Good which it represents. The darkness from which the prisoners came from was shown to be ignorance materialized. The material world is the cave with all its false models and imitations of forms being puppeteered with the glare of the material sun (the fire) to produce shadows which we believe to be the real objects. This is incorrect, and we eventually reach through forced dialectical the intelligible world which holds the true forms and the form of The Good. The prisoner had knowledge prior to reaching the intelligible world however and he understood names of objects which shows he knew of them to begin with but referred to them with ignorance.…
