Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby is a book about love, greed, and betrayal. It is written in the perspective of the main character, Nick Carraway. Nick moved to West Egg, one of the poorer places in Long Island, from out west to pursue his dreams of working as a bond salesman around 1922. He has a mysterious neighbor, who goes by the name Jay Gatsby. He throws legendary parties that nearly everyone in New York attends. Nick's friends, Tom and Daisy Buchanan, live in the richer, more prosperous East Egg. Nick goes there for lunch and meets Jordan Baker, a professional golfer, and discovers that all three enjoy partying and that Tom is cheating on Daisy with a woman named Myrtle. Gatsby reveals that he is in love with Daisy and that they had planned to get married, but didn't because of financial struggles. Gatsby and Daisy get back together and do not make an attempt to hide their affair in any way. Tom immediately catches on and asks Daisy, Gatsby, and Nick to have a drink together in his apartment in New York. While there, Tom went to visit Myrtle, but when he arrived Wilson, Myrtle's husband, announces that he found out about his wife cheating on him. He doesn't know that it was Tom, but he says that they will be moving out west so she can no longer visit him. This means that Tom lost both his wife, and his mistress. He returns to the apartment and starts raving about how Gatsby isn't the man he claims to be, and Daisy finds out that he only made his money through bootlegging. Daisy decides that she no longer wants to leave Tom for Gatsby and asks to be taken home. Tom suggests that her and Gatsby take his yellow car back to the house, and him and Nick will follow. Daisy and Gatsby take off in a rush, and when they drive past Myrtle and Wilson's home, Myrtle recognizes that it's Tom's car and runs out in the middle of the road, and unfortunately gets …show more content…
I am absolutely in love with the story, characters, setting — everything. The way it's written and how the characters interact with each other is so intriguing and elegant, one of my favorite parts in the book is on pages 16 and
