In her essay, Turkle feels that the increase in the demand for cell phones has harmed family life. “Longed for here is the pleasure of full attention, coveted and rare. These teenagers grew up with parents who talked on their cell phones and scrolled through messages as they walked to the playground” (Turkle). This quotation from the essay shows how heavily parents rely on their cell phones. Cell phones connect parents to their jobs and friends all hours of the day. This goes against the former idea of E-mailing being asynchronous because people are expected to have access to their E-mail 24 hours a day.
