A couple of years ago, workers protested a grocery store chain called Market Basket. The reason why the workers protested was “because they want their beloved CEO back,”(James). Arthur T. Demoulas was the CEO of Market Basket and was known to be a caring and loyal CEO. The employees often got high wages and Demoulas often “value people as much as profits,” and “sometimes showed up at employees' weddings and funerals,”(James). Machiavelli said that men “are ungrateful, fickle, liars and deceivers” and the board of directors at Market Basket had that mindset. They wanted to cut wages and do the opposite of Demoulas in order to gain more money and power. The employees were afraid of a feared leadership in the company so they protested outside of every Market Basket store to bring back Demoulas. The protesting eventually worked because Demoulas is back as the CEO of Market Basket and is still treating the workers well.
