Augusto C. Sandino led this Guerilla war and organized the Ejército Defensor de la Soberanía Nacional de Nicaragua (EDSNN-Army in Defense of the National Sovereignty of Nicaragua) (Grossman). This was considered a guerrilla war because the citizens of Nicaragua were trying to fight the U.S Marines who were big authorities. During this time, the US marines tried capturing Sandino but failed. The Marines decided to leave after their mission was unsuccessful. Nicaragua was experiencing poverty and unfair incomes. They were under a dictatorship in the country. The government was treated everyone the same. They gave them a home, food, and told them how to live their lives. Adding to that, The dictators made sure that the people were not educated but instead worked to their limits. They thought it was better that the less they knew. The more the Nicaraguans didn’t know about other government methods, the more ok they’d be with communism. Finally, the government forced labor on the people. They were put in farms to make the Nicaraguan economy better. Everyone worked for the government. People made little to no money and the government got the rest (“Inventory”). In response, the U.S government took over Nicaragua’s economy to help them become a democracy (“HISTORY”). The U.S was trying to show the residents of Nicaragua that communism was bad. The Nicaraguans did not like how differently the United States lived. Like other facilities like the United Fruit Company, more companies were trying to be built in Nicaragua and the citizens did not like that; it was a form of democracy.
