Nicaragua Personal Statement

Nicaragua, the country that saw me born and embraced me as I grew up is best known for its phenomenal lakes, astonishing volcanoes and sensational beaches. Nicaragua, located between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, provides a personal contact with nature and a rich biodiversity. My country is full of culture, religious festivities, delightful gastronomy and pleasant traditional music and dances. However, behind its flawless nature, it is a third world country and the second poorest country in Latin America. People suffer and struggle due to extreme poverty and unemployment. As I stood there in one of the orphanages I said to myself, I had to do something in the meantime, get further involved in my community by being a volunteer of different clubs whose purpose is to help in every aspect and offer assistance to diverse organizations in my country. Being part of the Nicaraguan community shaped me as a person because it defined my character and future aspirations in life. By the rough divorce my parents faced, I learned that failing sometimes is necessary to achieve success, and we must look towards a better tomorrow. My mother shaped me into becoming a strong, independent, powerful woman who is allowed to fail but it is demanded to stand up.
