Nfl's Code Of Ethics In Sports Fans

Improved Essays
It is necessary for a team or league to make a code of ethics for its fans but I don’t think they are very effective. While it is good for teams to promote a positive fan experience for everyone that attends games, the unfortunate truth is that most fans don't read the code of ethics nor do some try to follow them. For some fans, yelling foul language or making abusive gestures is just apart of their experience. If you’ve ever seen or been to New York Jets games, you know what I’m talking about. I don’t think it’s in sports fans nature to read a code of ethics before going to a game. Many fans tailgate, drink a lot of alcohol, and then attend the game to have a wild time rooting on their home team. The code of ethics is there, but it’s not going to get in the way of those fans having the game day experience that they want to have. Also, in a stadium filled with 75,000 people mixed with alcohol, bad things are bound to happen especially when a referee doesn't give the home crowd what they want. My theory as to why the NFL created its code of ethics was …show more content…
Its fan code of conduct policy has six different rules to promote a good fan experience. If fans violate any of the rules in the policy the league or team can use their right to eject violators from the game and report them to the police. Added on to that, depending on the severity of the violation, that fan should be suspended from attending any NFL game for a year. If fans know that violating the code of ethics will prevent them from watching their team live for an extended period of time, then maybe fans will actually take the policy seriously. For sports fans, a night in jail for bad behavior at a game can just be a slap on the wrist. When you take away their right to show their passion for the team in person at the stadium is when you might get their attention that irresponsible behavior is

As directed by Commissioner Obama and Chuckie Schumer I will advise the Professional Curling League on the provisions of the commissioner’s rights regarding player discipline in the NFL and MLB collective bargaining agreements. In regards to the NFL, the Commissioner has supreme power with regards to player discipline. According to Section 1 (a): All disputes involving a fine or suspension imposed upon a player for conduct on the playing field (other than as described in Subsection (b) below) or involving action taken against a player by the Commissioner for conduct detrimental to the integrity of, or public confidence in, the game of professional football (NFL CBA p. 204) The Commissioner is the top-ranking official in the NFL and has all…

An incentive-based program for injuring players does not belong in the NFL. It is bad for the brand and bad for the people who play the game, which is far bigger than one coach or one team or one season (Darlington, 2012, pg. 1). Through the scandal there were many suspensions and penalties that were put in place to reprimand the franchise for its actions. Head Coach Sean Payton received a one-year suspension while General Manager Mickey Loomis was only suspended for eight games. Assistant Head Coach Joe Witt received a six game suspension and Defensive Gregg Williams was suspended indefinitely from the team.…

Did you know that Vernon Davis of the Redskins, who had just scored a Touchdown, was penalized when he mimicked a basketball player and shot the Football through the uprights of a Goal Post against the Eagles. Refs called nine penalizes for celebrating last season. Another Penalty for celebrating is Bashaud Breeland began to twerk in the Touchdown, He got fined 12,154 I think that athletes shouldn't be punished for celebrating. One reason that Athletes should not be punished for celebrating is because it makes the game Hype for the Players and the Crowd. For example, When the players do their touchdown dance they are trying to make everyone cheer and it helps the players get hyped and ready for the game.…

Introduction Some may argue Colin Kaepernick to be the most talked about athlete in today’s sports era. Others however, may say he and his anthem-kneeling dispute have brought about a great disruption upon our country and what it means to be an American. Kaepernick has brought about what is arguably the most substantial complication yet to be seen in all professional sports, and as the commissioner of the National Football League (NFL), Rodger Goodell, finds himself stuck in the middle of the largest dilemma brought upon him in his entire tenure with the NFL. And as he tries to find a solution suitable to all races and religions, he only seems to be digging himself into a bigger hole and furthermore having no explanation to give the media…

They have done some disturbing things in the meantime between the “dog days” of summer and what they promise will be a polished, new future. There is a strong link between protecting the image of the game and the impact of player suspension. As stated before, the NFL is the most watched sport on television and therefore, a lot of pressure is put on the league to sustain that level of popularity. However, with domestic violence cases skyrocketing, along with others, the league often faces the decision of whether to suspend players or keep them to retain popularity. Brant Webb, a writer for the American University Journal of Gender, Social Policy and Law, wrote an interesting piece…

Imagine being at church in the middle of service and someone walks through the door in a Football Jersey, with face paint and a foam finger yelling and cheering loudly right in the middle of the pastor’s sermon. A football fan behaving as if he was at a football game at a church service would definitely seem out of place and even be seen as offensive to some. Your location at any given time should directly influences the way you behave. People at church have one set of values that control how they behave and football games may have a completely different set of expected behaviors. As taunting and cursing may be tolerated at a football game when a player messes up, it definitely would not be accepted at church if the pastor misreads something or messes up on their sermon.…

f banning name calling in high school sports really violates freedom of speech, as Steve Trevelise argued in an article then I guess many other of my fundamental freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights are being violated. Trevelise’s reasoning for yelling crude, derogatory remarks at other players as being a fundamental human right is hilariously bogus. The implementation of this law by New Jersey officials was not to limit the players or the coaches or the audience’s freedom of speech, but to limit the violence occurring during and after games. Trevelise also states that many fought and died so that you can have [freedom of speech].Our ancestors did not solely fight in wars so that anyone can frivolously toil away yelling lewd remarks toward the players.…
