Every little girl grows up loving horses, but most outgrow that desire. I never did. When I was young, I was scared of them because the first horse I fed a carrot to looked as though he could eat me. I was 4 years old and also the size of his head. For the longest time, I wished to ride and train horses even though I did not know a single thing about doing that; today, I teach other people more about how horses work within their herd and how humans can better work with their horse. In fifth grade, I started taking riding lessons. Once a week, I went to a nice barn to learn how to stay on top of a horse, and I learned how to braid a mane and tail and how to take apart and put together a bridle. When I entered middle school, I entered a new side of the horse world. My neighbor, who owned the horse with a huge head, still had horses and I quickly began to learn how different horses could be kept. The lesson barn I was riding at pampered the horses by stabling and feeding grain. This farm that I call Next-Door did nothing more but provide acreage for the horses to graze on. It took me a while to get used to the drastic difference between the two. These farm horses were creative lawn ornaments and not for beginners to try to ride. I still learn from them on a regular basis and I do not believe I will stop doing so. I have received skills in patience, guidance, love, leadership, understanding, and empathy from these beautiful creatures. No matter what people will tell me, I will continue my horse journey happily. No matter what gets in my way, I will enjoy my time, every second, with my best friends. No matter what I end up doing with my life, I will always find a place for horses in it. They are what have made me the person I am today and what I will always fall back onto during any problem, trauma, or happy moment because without them, I can be
