Instantly riveting with enticing details. I didn’t think this book was going to be interesting at first, but it has been so far. There were so many thoughts going through my mind while i was reading these two chapters. The thought that kept coming up was the bond between Dana and Rufus, how strong it felt and how strong it will become throughout the book as the story unravels. Another fascinating thing i encountered was the skepticism Kevin first had, but then the skepticism developed into certainty of what seemed impossible at first. I can relate to this common situation where you feel a bond with someone but also skepticism about the entire relationship or

Google defines time as “the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.” This view of time as a whole is evident in Octavia E. Butler’s novel, Kindred. Butler writes of a twenty-six-year-old African-American woman named Dana Franklin, of whom suddenly happens to gain the ability to travel back in time spontaneously. Dana travels through events of the antebellum south, and faces many harsh obstacles along the way. Dana's battle through many tough situations and her journey through the past could not have been even remotely survivable without her immense bravery.…

It is safe to say everyone has their limits. Every person has different boundaries to push, in regards to their patience. It is, also, accurate to say every human being can only tolerate so much before losing control of themselves. In the case of Dana, from the novel Kindred, and Mona, from movie Sanfoka, both were at some time privileged women who later in their lifetime lost all of their basic human rights. After being stripped of their rights, disrespected, dehumanized, and suffered irreversible psychological trauma these two lead characters finally snapped.…

I enjoyed every aspect of the book except for the wording in some parts. Even though it leaves very little questioning about the setting or the events with this style of wording, it seems like the book is trying to be too descriptive. But even with this the events unfolded in a rather natural flow to the storyline. In certain spots of the story, it even showed how some aspects of this flow made the storyline quite thrilling. I also found that at the end of every chapter, it gave some foreshadow as to how the events that took place in the chapter would relay back later in his life.…

The novel Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones unveils a breathtaking story about a man’s deception, a family’s complicity, and the two teenage girls caught in the middle. Dana is the secret daughter while Chaurisse is the legitimate daughter. The novel presents a wide variety of instances where intersections between gender, race, or class influence a character’s life. This novel shows how the identity of people change through the course of life and how it affects their interaction with other people in life. Dana is the daughter of James Wtherspoon and Gwendolyn.…
