News Reporting Bias

I will be the first to admit that I do not stay on top of current events as much as I should. I find it very confusing to keep track of what is going on in America and around the rest of the world. How can you understand the history of all of these difficult situations and try to make sense of why things are happening? How can I get facts about something that is happening so far away from me? The media is supposed to help us with these decisions by reporting accurate and unbiased facts. The problem is that I don’t feel like they do that anymore.
I cannot stand the way that media is biased these days. The way that the liberal and conservative outlets are so clearly divided with their reporting is ethically wrong in my opinion. Everything you read online now is attacking one side or the other and it’s not even about the issues anymore. I find it so hard to read that I just give up. Finding information that is not biased is like finding a needle in a haystack.

While there’s nothing innately unethical about having one political opinion or the other it is unethical to skew facts based on these opinions. But when someone holds these opinions so strongly I don’t think the bias is always clear to them. I do believe that the owners of these news sources are often purposely unethical in practice. A reporter does have a certain duty to tell the truth as completely and factually as possible but in a world like ours today you may not have a chance to get a job in mainstream media and maintain your highest ethical standards.
