Most of the time, when the news airs a story that involved guns or violence, they work with the police to gather information. In some cases the criminal might not have been caught, and the role of news media is to inform the public and concerned for their safety. If anyone know or seen the criminal, they are encourage to give the TV station or the police a call. News media plays an important role to make sure that the public is aware of the crime and works with the police to find the suspect. Weidert gives the examples of a school shootings, when they are not able to locate the shooter and have ask the public to help identify the shooter and contact the police, if they have any information. She noted that there was a time when they were ask not to released the information of the suspect because the people believe that the news should focus on the victim that is badly injured. I had a theory that some people would gets influenced to act violently because they have seen all the gun shooting stories on the news. I wanted to know what the news anchor think about the idea, so I ask Weidert about her opinion on the matter. She mentioned that it depends on the person; her job is to report the stories in a professional matters. Weidert also mention that there are some cases where the suspect have sympathized other shooter and took action. But TV news is not to blame because each person have their own side of the story and their past are what effect their actions. We do not know why most shooter act violently until we research and find out about what influenced them to act the way they do. Since we are talking about how people react to what they watch on the news, I ask Kim to give a rating to News media, like the ones that are given to movies. She thinks news media rating would be a G (general) to a PG (parental-guidance), because even though there is violence in it, the station tries not glory the situation and be professional in how they addressed the situation. She also mentioned that if there is anything too graphic, the station makes sure that they warn the viewer ahead of time. “We are always making sure that our viewer are aware about the content that they are going to see” Kim told
