Patriotism, as defined by Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, is “love that people feel for their country.” In different ways, American’s express patriotism. Ian Frazier’s “All-Consuming Patriotism” provides insight as to that same love people feel for their country being abused by our government. In this text, Frazier presents a strong opinion demonstrating the power of the government and the toll the government has on it’s people. Although I, personally, do not recall the attack on 9/11, that act of terrorism affected our country in ways I cannot comprehend.…
September 11, 2001 is a day that is forever ingrained in the brains of every North American citizen. The continent was taken by surprise when several commercial airliners collided with New York’s World Trade Towers and Washington, D.C.’s Pentagon building. The deadly terrorist attacks left over three thousand North Americans dead and the rest with scars that may never heal. But these scars are not the only outcomes of the tragic assault. From that day, North America’s security was vigorously shaken.…
The Story From Ground Zero In his article “The Price We Pay,” Adam Mayblum describes his firsthand experiences during the September eleventh attacks. He wants the American people to understand that the attack is a way for a malicious person to try and tear the American people apart. A terrorist wants to invoke fear and panic. Mayblum wants us to understand that even though the situation is devastating, we as American people should ban together in the face of adversity.…
My limited knowledge of the event, which has evolved through access of documentaries, and news shows have provided me with a foundational understanding of the attack and the pivotal roles that the emergency services played both during the attack and in the aftermath of the event. As I review the picture, it suggests a comradery between the two firemen in the devastation and terrible loss of life. In viewing the picture and seeing the dust which is literally setting on the site, a series of questions emerged in my mind including: how can you respond to people who are willing to kill themselves in supporting terrorist beliefs? Is there any true protection from those who would murder children and women to draw attention to themselves and their cause? No, it is my belief that you can only work to minimize the damage and prepare for the worst case scenarios.…
Bush’s campaign ad highlights the stable and steady handling of tragic national events during his first term by using images and provoking feelings of sadness experienced that day. The ad shows images of the American flag waving steadily among the rubble and chaos at ground zero while you see only remnants of the building in the background. In the days that followed the falling of the World Trade Center, Bush went on to visit ground zero and made comments that comforted America in all aspects. The weeks following September 11th, President Bush’s approval ratings went up to 86% and Americans seemed more open to the idea of using military force to deal with terrorism (“Bush and Public Opinion”).…

Pat Frank’s Alas, Babylon has more meaning than just a title of a random book. Randy and Mark Bragg, brothers, knew a nuclear war was coming but did not want anyone to know about it. Mark lived in Omaha while Randy lived in Florida. They would communicate back and forth to each other, via telephone or telegram, and “Alas Babylon” was their codename (Frank 14).…

Since the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States had never experienced such a dreadful attack. However, on September 11, 2001, America once again woke up to discover that they were being under attack. This assault towards the United States marked the single greatest loss it had ever faced. Not only was the nation violated, but it created an enormous insecurity and fear.…
Bush’s speech comforted the devastated nation by telling us acts of heroism and by telling us that we were going to get the men who did it. He wanted to comfort the nation because we were all affected by the tragedy of September 11th. He knew that we were confused about who did this and why anyone would ever do this. He comforted us by saying that the world was with us, supporting us and that we would never forget our nation’s national anthem playing at places such as Buckingham Palace, the streets of Paris and Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate. Knowing that the world’s prayers and support was with us reminded us that the entire world felt for us in the face of this tragedy.…
“Is it going to happen again?” “Am I safe to leave my home?” many wondered. Everywhere throughout the Nation, airlines stopped their service, the New York Stock Exchange was temporarily halted, and every TV station around the world was reporting on these horrendous attacks.…
Naturally, after the attacks on September 11th threatened national security, U.S. citizens looked to President George W. Bush to retaliate against the responsible parties and protect the U.S. from experiencing any further terrorist attacks. In an address to the people on September 20th, 2001, President Bush revealed his intentions for the War on Terrorism. Politicians tend to say what the people want to hear, so they can gain support for the actions they intend to impose. President Bush assures citizens that “every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war” will be used “to the destruction and to the defeat of the global terror network” (Bush 2001). Since citizens were in a panicked state of mind, any sort of retaliation deemed fit for these terrorists.…
Imagine being at your favorite artist’s concert and singing along to your favorite song with your friends and having a great night. Then, the music stops and you hear ear defining sounds coming from inside the arena. You look around and see blood, bomb fragments, and people running all around you trying to escape the nightmare. This was a reality for thousands of people at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester in May. The terrorist attack at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester caused an increase in security, brought the world together, and made people think of others before themselves.…
Statistics show how on the day of the attack more than 3,000 people were killed, and more than 400 were police officers and firefighters. But it wasn’t just lives lost that day that scared the country, it was the attack against the nation that now over fourteen years, the country is still left facing and has continued to cause the lives of many. On that same day of the attack former President Bush gave notice that the groups known as the Al-Qaeda were the ones associated with the attacks.…
Concerns of economic consequences and security threats are the most common defenses for those who fear the benign refugees. Although admitting refugees into the United States would come at great monetary costs, the expenses of military intervention is even greater. ISIL related operations costed $6.5 billion since 2014. With the same amount of money, the U.S. could offer protection for a fair share of refugees for over 3 years. Paying for refugees would not only be less expensive, but more successful than increased military intervention in the Middle East.…
