On Saturday, June 25, 2005 in London, England, a fifteen-year old girl left her house and went straight up to a construction. She climbed a 130-foot crane. She wasn’t afraid, not careless; she was just asleep. Luckily, a man was passing when he saw her, he immediately call the authorities. After that a firefighter came and helped her get down after waking her up.1 This can demonstrate the amazing incidents that can happen while we sleep. Some of you may ask yourselves how can this happen? The mood, the place, and the food you eat before sleeping, sleeplessness, and even oversleeping can affect your sleep.

I. What is sleep?
The origin of the word sleep comes from Old English Slæp “sleepiness, inactivity,” as well as its figurative use, which is “repose of death.”2 According to Webster’s New World

Some of its features are fatigue, irresistible sleepiness and usual sleep or wake schedules. A couple went for a vacation to Rome; their plane departed at 8:00 P.M, from New York. They aboard just in time for dinner, and after three hours, at 11:00 P.M (New York time) the lights were turned off and they assumed for them to go to sleep. But they couldn’t sleep because it was very uncomfortable. At 3:00 A.M (still New York time), they woke up to fill passport forms and have breakfast, at the same time lights were turned on. When they finally got to the hotel, they checked in by 1:00 P.M Rome time, but 7:00 A.M in New York time. They decide to take a tour through Rome and make the most of the day. After they got back to the hotel, they felt a vast fatigue, so they choose to take a nap before dinner. When they woke up, they realized it was 8:00 A.M and that they had slept for more than 12 hours.12 This is an example of how jet lag affects us; it is mainly because of the traveling from on time one to
