Such as ShotSpotter a gun detection program which uses audio sensors and triangulation to determine the location of gunfire. For example, if a gunshot goes off a sensor is triggered the police officers are notified within thirty to forty-five seconds, quicker than calling 911 (Zahn). By having this item on the policeman's side, they are minimizing the time that they would usually have to use to obtain back up. The author explains “55.9 percent decrease in the number of homicides in the city since 2011, when 34 people were killed. Last year 15 people were killed.” (Zahn) This shows the amount of deaths have drastically decreased because of ShotSpotter. The internet itself is another source that can be a criminal’s death sentence. With proper technology and the use of many of this generations popular internet sources police officers are able to track down or even begin to learn more of the potential offender or what could be his/her next move by just beginning to understand their pattern in doing things. They’re not only keeping up with technology, but also using the advances of technology to stay ahead of criminals. All of this technology has helped law enforcement become more efficient and effective. Such as reducing crime rate, becoming more responsive, re-building the reputation and trust of the citizens to the police officers. This not only benefits the law, but also the people. All of this technology is helping police officers serve their communities, and making sure it’s safe. If they continue to stay ahead of crime, we will continue to shape the way citizens view law enforcement, become more responsive, which will encourage citizens to count on us and put the criminals away quicker. Technology over the years will only continue to increase it’s just a matter of time, but since technology will increase, so will the productivity of the technology in law enforcement. Which means, more effective police officers with better resources to not only making their job easier, but making the community of the citizens safer. With every criminal put away its one less crime prevented. Technology will continue to advance and change, with that being said the use of technology will continue to allow police officers to further their ability to serve and protect their communities all around the
