I found it interesting that the part of speech for each term was discussed, induction being a noun and mentoring being verb or used as an adjective. Induction, a comprehensive, coherent, and sustained professional development process that is organized by school districts to train, support, and retain new teacher, which then should seamlessly progress them into a lifelong learning program. When comparing the North Carolina standards to Dr. Wong’s seven induction strategies; administrative support, welcome center, pre-school workshop, demonstration classrooms, long-term learning and multiple support I would say Cabarrus County has some room for further improvement. Everyone in Cabarrus County knows the value of a mentor therefore before a person can be a mentor he or she must attend a day of training. After reading the article I believe there should be training that both the mentee and mentor attend together, that will help build the relationship and allow everyone to be aware of the expectations. North Carolina Standard three says mentors provided time to work with beginning teachers during and outside of the school day, I am a mentor for two teachers this year one a lateral entry and another is in her third year and there is no protected time for us to work together in school. We must meet before or after school and we communicate a great deal by phone. Cabarrus County has invested in PLC or Performance Learning Communities to help ensure collaboration among educators of any age , which can be seen as long term learning and multiple support in the Wong strategies.
The focus of education is student learning therefore if we want successful students we must have successful teachers in the classroom. North Carolina like most states has a set of induction standards
