New Orleans Central Business District Case Study

Decent Essays
New Orleans Central Business District (CBD) represents an atmosphere ripe for business and creative arts. As one of the few areas in the city to escape significant damage from Hurricane Katrina, the CBD spent the last decade building upon its infrastructure rather than rebuilding. Not only is the CBD central for business and art, it also serves as an international hub. France and Mexico maintain consulates in the district with many other honorary consuls representing much of the world.

In 1803, the CBD became the first expansion outside of the city's original French Quarter boundaries.

There is always a vast divide between the information in the initial news reports and the eventual reports after the government discloses all of the details in court. The Liberty City Seven were a group of young black males from one of the Miami’s poorest areas, Liberty City. They were approached by an undercover FBI criminal informant, Abbas al-Saidi who began his career as a drug snitch at the age of 16 and then transitioned into terrorism stings. He recruited the group to blow up the Sears Tower by offering to pay them $50,000, but there was no evidence that they would actually carry out “the plot.”…

Introduction Detroit, Michigan is a unique city boasting of an iconic past, a gloomy present, and a potentially bright future. Once one of America’s largest and most thriving cities because of professional opportunities in the automotive industry, Detroit fell to devastating lows after the loss of thousands of jobs from Ford Motor, General Motors, and Chrysler. Detroit is the 18th overall most populated city in the United States, the largest city in the State of Michigan, and recently became the largest American city to file for bankruptcy. Though the city currently faces a laundry list of problems, I believe that Detroit is fully capable of hosting a successful Olympic Game years from now that could help change the overall condition of the…

The first major issue, which most areas in the city sit below sea level. The problem here is as the city is sinking sea levels are rising. With the rise in sea levels, this causes the city to be prone to a great deal of flooding. To bring this into perspective, if you think of JMU’s campus (New Orleans) like a giant bowl (elevation of different areas) with the center of the bowl being the tunnel under Interstate 81, when JMU receives large amounts of rain all the water drains toward the tunnel (the center of the bowl) and eventually flood it out. This is how New Orleans is, some areas sit as low as six feet below sea level and some areas sit as high as twenty feet above sea level.…
