Sally Donovan, codename AV (audio/visual), named so for her tenacity and propensity at being the Fusilier’s eyes and ears when he’d gone to ground, didn’t have a single problem with letting that nasty bastard hang underneath the airship. After all, you could barely hear his hysterical shrieking over the thunder and rain.
Danny Milford (codename Captain, for obvious reasons), on the other hand, was the esteemed pilot of the Northumberland and made damn sure the poor sod didn’t end up splattered on the side of a building, or worse, falling to his death. So, they continued at a slow place and high altitude, all lightning rods in place, while the Snake prayed for his life and pissed his pants, in that order.

The War started, as most Wars often do, over disagreements in foreign policy. America, when it was just America, had long held the belief that the disarmament of the Middle East would be a boon, not only to their directly neighbouring countries, but also to the world. They mounted an aggressive campaign against several countries, too aggressive by some standards, and it wasn’t long before most of Europe had retaliated.
It was about that point that Canada, the United States, and South America, through the Great Unification of 2040, merged their forces and proved to Europe, if not the world, how powerful they could actually be. With the Middle East suitably contained, they turned their sights on Europe, and it was not pretty.
Then came the Heavy Bombs. Much less powerful than nuclear bombs, these weapons were designed for a purpose other than instant death; they were designed as a form of punishment. Laced with enhanced Cadmium, these explosives poisoned the air, soil, and water in such a way that those in constant contact with these elements could expect a slow death of heavy metal poisoning. This also made the soil unable to grow crops, the rain toxic, and the water
