New England Patriots Game Analysis

On Friday night, the New England Patriots played the Detriot Lions in a preseason game. Even though the team won the game, the biggest story coming out of that game is not good news for the team. During the first quarter, Wide Receiver Julian Edelman suffered a knee injury when running a route and he had to be carted out of the game and did not come back.

Last season in 16 games, Edelman had 91 receptions, 1,106 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns. Leading up to last season, the Patriots were expected to be Super Bowl contenders and he was a huge reason for the team's success. Turning short yardage catches to big long receptions for over 10 yards in the slot receiver spot. Even though Edelman is not a receiver that has 10 plus touchdowns a season,

With the way, he works on the off field and the impact that he makes on the team this really stings. The best thing for Edelman to do is rehab his injury and make sure he is 100% ready for next season protecting that no setbacks are going to happen.

With Edelman out, there are several guys on the roster that will be able to produce at the wide receiver position like Bradlin Cooks, Chris Hogan Danny Amendola Malcolm Mitchell and the undrafted rookie that the team brought in for the preseason in Austin Carr. If there was anyone that needs to step up the most on the receiving core to replace him, that person has to be Chris Hogan. Like Edelman Hogan can also play the slot as well, not as good as him though but for the time being until he gets back, Hogan is a solid guy to replace him in the slot.

If there was anyone that should be impacted the most by this news, it should obviously be Quarterback Tom Brady. Without him, Brady will be missing most likely his favorite target at wide receiver. Even though he is out for the season, this should not hurt Brady one bit, the team has so much depth at wide receiver that will make Brady life without Edelman a lot
