“Men and women whose early youth was shaped in the ordeal of the Great Depression showed the values formed in that crucible when tyranny threatened the world”(Steve Buyer). The great depression was one of the most devastating tragedies that has ever happened to Americans. Throughout FDR’s two terms, he proposed the New Deal to America, but in the end was an overall failure.
A nation's debt is one factor in the world that continues to grow and cannot be ended. As FDR was in his presidency, he set out to improve the overall debt, but could not succeed. A big part of America’s population was not able to find work or live a healthy life. For example, “ In 1939, the unemployment rate was still 19 percent, and not until 1943 did it reach its pre-Depression levels”. Roosevelt did propose the WPA to try and provide jobs for people. “ In April, he created the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to provide jobs for unemployed people.” FDR did enact acts to try and improve this, instead he led work availability to decrease drastically. In the end, he did nothing to help the Americans that were jobless and having no luck finding work during the depression.
