New Belgium Brewing has been one of the more socially responsible brewing companies in the world as exemplified by the award given by the Business Ethics Magazine. They have been focused on both profitability and responsibility ever since the inception in 1991 by using the triple bottom line approach. The triple bottom line approach looks at business through economic, social, and environmental aspects and this influenced the core values that the company follows to date. New Belgium Brewing has been able to be socially responsible through major efforts with employee initiatives, renewable energy, and recycling.

Corporate social responsibility is about reducing the damage done to the economy, and helping develop the community that the company is operating around. New Belgium has been able to meet the criteria by using renewable energy and donating money for certain issues. Corporations will never do anything that makes them lose money and that goes for social responsibility as well. According to an article on Portland Business Journal, Nike has been able to cut gas emissions by three percent and increase revenue by twenty-six percent at the same time (Walker). There is a clear benefit to corporate social responsibility because consumers will likely buy more if the company is doing something that makes the community or world better. If we take a look at what other companies are doing, we can see that New Belgium is on the right track of social responsibility. For example, FedEx and UPS have been investing in more gas efficient trucks, which help reduce emissions and save over $50,000 in costs (Scheer and Moss). Disney, one of the largest entertainment companies in the world, is trying to be more social responsible with how they conduct business. According to Business Ethics, Disney has been trying to serve healthy meals and reduce gas emissions by imposing a tax on certain parts of the business to drive innovation (Connor). Every company mentioned has been trying to cut down on emissions, improve labor standards, and invest in renewable energy. Every company has their own way of going about social responsibility but all of them are trying to achieve the same goals. New Belgium is no different from all these other corporations in their efforts in corporate social responsibility and I do believe that it is a socially responsible company despite what its business
