NEW BEGGININGS

Growing up in a single parent home as a single child was plain out boring. There were only two things I really wanted in my life. A dad and a younger or order sibling. I wasn’t the only kid with one parent and no siblings. A majority of the kids I knew growing up where in the same situation I was in. The fact that I wasn’t alone mad things more comfortable because we all had things to relate to. I believe this is what motivated me to become better than my poverty stricken environment and later put a end to my mystery. I had just graduated high school still not knowing who my father was. I didn’t have a clue as to who he was or what he looked like however, that didn’t stop my mind from always wondering and thinking about who it could be. I used to hope it was a celebrity or something. After I graduated I realized how expensive college was and decided joining the United States Navy was for me. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

In the 19 years I have been alive, I have lived in three states, five towns, eight houses, and now, two countries. Right before I finished high school my parents decided to move to Guatemala. I welcomed the change because I had been visiting Guatemala every summer since I was 15, and my heart always seemed at peace there. The closest I perpetually felt at home was when I lived in Guatemala, though I resided there for a short time. Every day greeted me with words rolling off my tongue I previously did not know, the taste of delicious and unique foods, and a breathtaking landscape, complete with the view of an active volcano outside of my bedroom window.…

A huge life changing event for me was join the U.S. Coast Guard at age 18, right after I had just completed one semester at the Santa Rosa Junior College. I was a young adult thinking that I was ready to life on my own, that I was matured enough to survive on my own. That was extremely wrong in every possible way. From the first day of basic training to the first day in the fleet, was a major shift in my life. The world around me changed with this resolution.…
