DAR Essay It is 1918 and Dad is drafted into the war. I thought that he would never come back. Mom had to go be a nurse overseas. We live in North Georgia where there is mild weather. I miss Mom and Dad and it isn’t the same without them. I missed them so bad that I went to volunteer for the war. When I went to volunteer they asked for my birthdate and other personal information. The war lasted 19 months. There was 10 million soldiers killed in the war. When they told me I was going to fight I was a little excited and a little nervous. I got a gun and was accurate with it. So they stationed me in Berlin, Germany where I met my Dad. I was glad to meet my Dad. My Dad and I talked about Mom for a while then we got a call to take cover enemy bomber planes was overhead. My Dad held me as we hid in a basement then the planes slowly faded away. It is Sunday and we get to read the paper for once in two months.
