Judging is when a person forms an opinion or conclusion about someone or something before fully understanding it. It is our human nature to first make a judgment over someone new. It happens even if we do not want to, or without us even realizing it. Judgments may be assessments of current states, such as health status, ability, attractiveness, or they may form predictions of future behaviors. The saying, “Never judge a book by its cover” came along because our first instinct is to form opinions over things, even if they tend to be untrue. It is basically saying that just because something looks a certain way, does not necessarily make it true.

An example of judging leading to good things would be that it could have great effects in social interactions, such as if a person can judge how people will act or feel about a subject then that person would not do whatever would upset the people. Also the more strongly a person feels about how they would like to act in a certain situation, the more likely you are to follow through with it. This will mean that there is no second guessing of oneself, which would lead to missed opportunities. Studies show that when a person who is confident in how their first impression was perceived is more likely to be correct (Calabro 38). This means that if you assume that situation is a certain way then there is a very high chance it will be, so there will not be any awkward moments. Wake Forest University analyzed 5-minute interactions of 280 college students in opposite-sex pairings to make this study (Calabro 38). Within this study, they noticed that if one person believed they hit it off well with the other, the more correct they are with that
