“Your father sold our land back in Taiwan and we are in debt right now,” said my mother, who was already in her early sixties, as she gently touches my hair trying to calm me down. Ever since my mother told me what had happened, my father was forced to go back to Taiwan to work to pay off the debt and to be in a country where gambling is illegal. With no parents by my side, I became pretty independent because I had no one to look after me. Franklin was the only person I had around me; however, we are not close even though we are all we have for each other. Every now and then, my parents would visit us during the summer to check on us. However, we would not do much bonding as a family; instead, we would go to casinos for our vacation. Although at time it could be fun, I still wish my family and I could go somewhere together as a family and all have fun, not just my father. “I’M NOT GOING THERE WITH YOU ANYMORE,” yelled my brother, as he walked back into his room. “Do you think I’m being a bad father for you guys? Deep down, I know my father will say, “We don’t have any money right now.” That is his excuse for everything. And whenever I ask my brother for money because I need it for school events, he says no. With no source of any financial ability, I have gotten myself a job and I have been working since April to pay for my bills. “Lend me some money, I need to pay for the car insurance,” my brother said rudely. “No, you have your own job or just ask dad,” I said coldly towards my brother. “You already know how they are and I don’t have any money in my
