Neurosurgery Career Path

There are many different careers in the world. One of the largest career fields is the medical field. This consists of many different occupations such as physical therapist, dermatologist, pediatricians, nurses, and surgeons. All of these career choices help people improve their health in some way. Being a surgeon is one of the more strenuous career choices of the medical field. Becoming a surgeon is a tedious journey that requires extensive schooling, strong character traits, and a lot of time, but if one finds saving lives rewarding, then it is the perfect occupation. Neurosurgery is my choice of career path, this is the surgical specialty of the brain and spinal cord. A person wanting to pursue this career must be especially committed to studying and immensely patient as education may take up to 14 years or longer. First one must complete three to four years of college and students must take The Medical College Admissions Test to get into medical school. Then, a neurosurgeon must complete four years of medical school, an internship, a residency program, and five to six years of neurosurgery residency (Myers). “Several programs also require residents to pass the primary examination of the American Board of Neurological Surgery” (study.com). Towards the end of schooling, most neurosurgeons will begin making money as they study by acquiring internships. After schooling is complete the average neurosurgeon makes about twenty-four thousand dollars annually, but can make anywhere from one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand dollars annually.
