Neurosis is a mental disorder characterized by excessive anxiety or insecurity. It is so common that if you took all the different types of this disorder and put them together, you would see a huge prevalence rate. This means that a lot of people will suffer from one neurosis or another at some point in their life.
Neurotic personality
Everyone experiences mental conflict at various points in their life. This type of experience undoubtedly produces anxiety. The psychologically healthy person is able to tolerate the anxiety and resolve the conflict by making a decision and acting on it. However, a person having a neurotic personality cannot do these things. They cannot make up their mind, act or tolerate the anxiety that their feelings of conflict produce. Neurosis and neuroticism are interchangeable used in common literature. But neurosis is the name of the mental disorder whereas neuroticism means the state of having the disorder. However, both terms are no longer used in psychiatric diagnosis.

Anxiety neurosis
Anxiety neurosis is characterized by excessive anxiety and worry that last for several months or years. It can manifest itself in the form of phobias and panic attacks.
Depressive neurosis
A person suffering from depressive neurosis feels unusually profound feelings of sadness and loses interest in things that were once pleasurable
Post-traumatic stress disorder
The person develops psychological symptoms after witnessing a traumatic event that may have caused harm to himself or someone else.
