Good Afternoon,

I hope you are having a great spring break!

I would like to rewrite my essay so that I can get a better grade, and I have been thinking about a new question and thesis to base my essay on. I was wondering if you could help by guiding me in picking the best question and thesis to write my new essay.

Summary: In the article “Brainology”, Dweck talk about two types of attitudes or mindsets. The two types are a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. Students with a growth mindset tended to get up again from setbacks and continuously improve academically with added effort, while those with a fixed mindset had a mindset that their abilities is what they are stuck with, they are afraid to further challenge themselves; due to belief that they aren't capable. Dweck had concluded that praising one without any acknowledgement of effort tended to create a fixed mindset while those praised for hard work or effort were more likely to not only feel more confident but still kept trying even if a task was a challenge, making these qualities a growth mindset,…

Molecular control of adult neurogenesis in the human subependymal zone Adult neurogenesis The generation of new functional neurons from multipotent neural stem cells, termed neurogenesis, has been shown to persist in many mammalian species in two regions of the adult brain: the subgranular zone of the hippocampal dentate gyrus and the subependymal zone [SEZ, also subventricular zone] adjacent to the lateral ventricles [1, 2]. Lower levels of neurogenesis have been reported in other regions of the rodent and primate brain, including the neocortex [3, 4], amygdala [5] and substantia nigra [6], but this has been difficult to replicate consistently other than in the diseased brain [7]. Other studies provided compelling evidence that precursor…

Ethics of Deep Brain Stimulation in Treating Conditions of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Addiction Deep brain stimulation (DBS), a new form of psychiatric therapy, which emerged during the late 1980’s (Kraemer, 2013), opens a thrilling door of potential in the world of psychological medicine. Patients suffering from severe cases of Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and essential tremor are turning to this effective neurosurgery to diffuse debilitating symptoms associated with these ills. Schermer (2013) explains that DBS treatment works by implanting electrodes roughly 1.27 mm in diameter, which emit successive electrical impulses, into specific regions deep within the brain. Over 35,000 patients worldwide have had successful brain stimulating implants to treat movement disorders (Schermer, 2013), for which the use of DBS treatment has earned approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).…

Deep brain stimulation is a technique where an electrode is placed within certain areas of the brain. Electrical impulses are then created by the electrode to regulate abnormal impulses. Under the patient’s skin near the collarbone, the electrode is connected to a stimulator or pacemaker (Pluta, 2011). Deep brain stimulation requires locating the target part of the brain and then drilling a small hole in the skull to allow the placement of an electrode. During the implantation of the electrode, testing occurs to make sure that the electrode is only stimulating nerve cells that reduce symptoms.…

If I were asked to pick one goal to accomplish during my lifetime, it would be to inspire and help others to be the best version of themselves. I have known I was meant to work in the field of healthcare since about the age of three, when I couldn’t wait to grow up and become a veterinarian. That love for animals eventually developed into a love of caring for people as well, as I now have my heart set on becoming a Medical Doctor. Although I think it might be a bit presumptuous to declare a specialty this early, I have taken an incredible interest in the brain’s functioning and its affect on our behavior. This interest is why I am choosing to complete my first degree in Neuroscience.…
