Neurographic Reflection

I believe I delivered a well-thought-out, intriguing Take the Floor presentation on the neurology of sports. I was extremely prepared on the day of my presentation. I knew my subject of concussions remarkably well and was very passionate about it because of my personal experience with them. I would give myself a developing rating on presenter charisma, creativity, and interaction with the audience. During my presentation, I connected with the audience and ensured they were involved by frequently asking questions and having volunteers come up to the front for interactive activities. For example, I talked to individual members of the audience about times when they had a concussion, and I also had two volunteers come up to show everyone what a …show more content…
I was able to project my voice so that everyone could hear me and my enunciation was clear. I also used a conversational yet authoritative tone so that the audience could fully absorb the information. However, I would like to work on avoiding fillers like um. I would give myself a developing rating for non-verbal communication because I was steady when still, but I could have moved around more and used the space more effectively. I would give myself a mastery rating on prepared visuals. I had detailed pictures illustrating brain scans of people with and without concussions. I also showed a short video of a brain with a concussion so the audience could see it in motion. I would give myself a mastery rating in incorporation of technology. I used a powerpoint to help guide the audience through my presentation. I would give myself a mastery rating on appropriate timing and ability to adjust timing when necessary. I met the time requirements and finished in the time frame that I expected to. I would give myself a mastery rating in dress appropriate to presentation topic and tone. I would a soccer jersey, soccer pants, and sneakers to represent my topic of sports and

The article I chose is by Chris Anderson. He tells the story of Richard Turere, who invented “lion lights,” where the lights create a since of motion to keep lions away from the village animals. Mr. Anderson wanted Mr. Turere to speak at TED, but Mr. Turere was shy and did not possess the presentation skills it took to talk in front of a crowd during a TED talk. Eventually, Mr. Turere required the skills from school and gave an outstanding presentation about his invention.…

For this assignment, my group’s topic was Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and how it is prevalent in the novel, ‘Speak’ by Laurie Hall Anderson. My responsibility was to do the facts and statistics slide and to do the two characters that experienced/influenced PTSD slide. While working on the assignment, I did run into some challenges. The biggest being that it was hard to find facts and statistics on PTSD that were Canadian and relatively recent. I ran into this issue because many websites that I found focused more on America, on worldwide facts and statistics, and the information was quite outdated.…

The famous scientist Ernest Rutherford, better known as the father of nuclear physics, once said that it should be possible to explain the laws of physics to a barmaid. In the book “When the Scientist Presents”, Jean-luc Lebrun answers how to do that by taking us through the journey of Dr. Vladimir Toldoff, a fictional not so good presenter and in the process by providing valuable insights on how to make a memorable, analytical but engaging scientific presentation. The book focusses on the four major components of a good presentation – content selection, audience expectation, slide design and the presenter - and devotes significant discussion time on each of these.…

I and Jack met the patient in the Healthy Heart Program waiting room upon which our patient James discussed his interest in music and ability to play musical instruments with us. We discussed how Jazz was a form of rebellion against traditional music and how it was born in bars not college campuses. Next our patient was taken to a patient room to have his vitals take. It is interesting to see that in hospitals so much of the data collection and recording regarding a patient is done using technology.…

I want to take this opportunity to sincerely and formally thank you for all you have done and made possible in helping me progress throughout my time here at SPC. My experience as a member of the Honors College has enhanced my life through the fellowship, better course environments, and the exceptional research conference opportunities and exposure that your leadership has provided. From a student’s standpoint ― especially an “unconventional” student such as myself ― you have given not only fresh and unique opportunities to myself and our membership, but you have given your heart and soul with the purpose of adding an advanced and totally positive learning environment. I know many Honors College alumni privately express this very same message to you ― but your total giving of time, energy, creativity, and true caring should receive far more formal acknowledgement.…

The speaker did well on speaking clearly, made a good eye contact, and most importantly was he had a good transition throughout his speech. Firstly, he spoke very clearly through his speech because I can hear each of the single words that he spoke. It was important that the audience hear what he is talking about. Secondly, he made a good eye contact to the audience. He did not just focus on reading his note cards.…

This week in clinical, I was assigned a patient with a nasogastric tube. A NG tube is very painful for the patient if it is slightly moved, so I was a little nervous taking care of this patient. I walked into to the room and met with the patient and his wife. I began to ask him questions about his past medical history, his medications, and current state of being. I then took vital signs.…

Self-Reflection My presentation was effective in explaining how the forces of hydrodynamics and physics influenced the design of a surfboard. I believe that my use of an actual surfboard was the most effective component of my presentation because it gave the audience a visual representation of the structure of a surfboard, allowing them to see the parts up close. This made my presentation more understandable, creative, and interesting.…

There was a feeling that I had already won half the battle. Yes, I had prepared well for my lecture. I shared different patient stories according to the situation at time. I used videos for my presentation to make the students engaging. I also broke down the concepts, like I had made a pathophysiology of chronic kidney disease using another textbook in flowchart format.…

I felt that I presented much better than during my previous teaching session. I feel I could have done more to engage the audience. The process of constructing an explanation for the poster and presentation helped me understand the grammatical concept we selected, which was Possessive nouns. Overall if you know how to explain how something works, you are more likely to understand the concept easier and faster. Coming up with an explanation for the poster helped us remember the form, the rules, and the concepts of how possessive nouns work. During the process of figuring out what we were going to say and do, we were able to memorize how possessive nouns work. When we were getting together to construct the poster and present it, each of us had a part to explain.…

I: During this semester, I worked with some individuals who had the disability, “cerebral palsy”. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder caused by physical, social, or historical factors from the mother either prior, during, or after the individual is born. The disability causes the individual to have limited mobility on his or her left or right side of the body. Polzin, Odle, Davidson, and Longe (2007) express some important finding about cerebral palsy such as; CP is not a specific disorder but describes a broad group of neurological and physical problems… [Relating to] the cerebral cortex, a part of the brain that controls voluntary muscle movement (par. 2). For this reason the body don’t function as “normal” individuals and this demographic…
