Case Study: Netiq As An Organizational Leader

NetIQ is a global enterprise software company based in Houston, Texas. Currently, it is part of MicroFocus based in Newberry, UK. NetIQ founded in 1995 with initial focus on performance-monitoring. In 2006 NetIQ acquired by Attachmate. In 2011 Attachmate acquired Novell. After acquisition, NetIQ business unit added with identity and security line of products. NetIQ emerged as an identity and security solution provider. In 2014, Attachmate merged with Micro Focus International. Identity and security line of products has become primary deliverables from NetIQ business unit.

NetIQ business unit has gamut of products. This includes Identity and secure management, performance management, data center and virtualization products. All products

Leaders hold positive expectations for followers, believing that they can do their best. Rewards will encourage employee to work hard to achieve individual tasks and goals. Leaders inspire people and spreads vision about what are company goals. They inculcate innovation and creativity in solving issues related to software products. These products are few years old. All these products added with new set of features applicable to modern market needs. Management encourage to take ownership of their work. They keep helping people to improve their performance. Transformational leadership style brings motivation and innovation in organizational culture. Whereas transactional leadership style makes leadership more responsive. Employees were rewarded for their performance by salary increase or promotion to their roles in organization. If Employee meets task or goal, he or she will be rewarded. In case an employee failed to meet the task or goal, punishment will be no increase of salary even after many years of service and no change in role. Sometimes termination of employee happens if the organizational goals are not in line with employee achievements.
The Combination of Transformational and transactional management styles are close to Theory of X and Theory of Y where theory X can be compared with Transactional Leadership and Theory Y and Transformational Leadership are similar.
In summary organization leadership is in line with contingency approach. Leadership style is more likely to be Transformational but based on the task and environment of execution it can be
