The topic about this Critical Response was to pick which one of the two short stories I had to read was superior, or best in my opinion. I chose Nethergrave, by Gloria Skurzynski. My reasoning behind my pick was because I thought ‘Nethergrave’ kept you on the edge of your seat and kept you guesting, whereas Ray Bradbury’s story, “A Sound of Thunder” just put it out there. Bradbury’s science fiction would in my opinion, not give too many clues or details. For both of these stories are science fiction, one is more obvious than the other. What I am meaning to say is that just reading a little bit of Bradbury’s story you can tell because it has to do with time travel and dinosaurs where as you have to keep reading till the end of “Nethergrave’ to figure out its science fiction. But both fit into science fiction quite right. In “Nethergrave” towards the end, when you figure out its science fiction, the boy is able to become a jaguar, to where it is almost seems real. What my idea of the ending to that short story was that somehow he got sucked into the Nethergrave world and that’s why his mother couldn’t find him to show him the jaguar, because he was the jaguar. …show more content…
For the point of view for “Nethergrave” is the little( but not so little) Jeremy, who has online friends . He is a kid that doesn’t fit in so well at his school, so he makes online friends that he chats with, every day. Now the point of view for “A Sound of Thunder” would be the man that goes on the trip named Ecktel. Now when he is getting ready for this trip, he thinks he is prepared for what’s in store, but not quite.
