Nestlé follows a mission statement claiming, “commitment to enhancing people’s lives by offering tastier and healthier food and beverage choices at all stages of life and at all times of day.” From this, three core institutional goals were created; balanced diets of nutritious and healthy nature, sustainable financial performance, and last but not least stakeholder trust in the product and company. Nestlé is therefore known for, “Creating Shared Value” (CSV), creating a liaison with Corporate Social Responsibility and Competitive Advantage whilst considering society and shareholders needs primarily.

Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value Council is what provides guidelines for Nestlé’s position in society and behavior, governed by 12 external experts assessing progress, corporate social responsibility, sustainability etc. The Nestlé in society board, of which Bulcke is chairman, sees to the implementation of strategy, working to assure that all economic activity of the firm cohere to these societal goals. Furthermore, the AGM (annual general meeting), paired with numerous shareholder surveys, annual reports and investor relation activities permit direct discussion between board of directors, management team and shareholders.
