In recent years, due to more serious environment problems, multinational companies have more focused on Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) which part is related to environmentally protection. Both Nestlé and Wal-Mart Stores are famous multinational company and adopt vigorous measures to protect environment during their daily actions towards CSR. Nestlé which is the world’s largest manufacturer of packaged food and drinks product located Switzerland and its production includes baby food, chocolates, drinks, frozen entrees, ice cream, breakfast cereals and pet food. At present, Nestlé owns about five hundreds factories and markets many brands that include Kit Kat chocolate bars, Maggi noodles, Nescafé coffee, Dreyer’s ice cream, Poland …show more content…
Both Nestlé and Walmart have made efforts to improve their packaging’s standard in order to suit to environment and sustainability. According to Barnes (2017), Nestlé use PIQET (Packaging Impact Quick Evaluation Tool) which is a packaging development cycle in early stage. PIQET, a life-cycle assessment software tool, comes from the Sustainable Packaging Alliance and is an important tool in Nestlé’s ECODesign initiative. Similarly, Wal-Mart also has improved its packaging by different ways to protect environment. Firstly Ma (2010) reported that Walmart has been adopting new notions and designing new small packaging to use worldwide. Smaller packaging benefits for Walmart and its factories, because it helps Walmart more efficiently during its product process; it also help Walmart reduce costs of packaging. Furthermore, small packaging use less materials to package products and it is useful to reduce environmental pollution. Secondly, Walmartt also uses science and technology to improve its packaging. PR Newswire (2007) claimed that Walmart adopted Packaging Scorecard, which started on February 1st and assess the packaging of products according to greenhouse gas emissions involved with production, material value, packaging ratio, cube utilization, recycled content usage, renewable energy and manufactures’ packaging. Walmart is much better than Nestlé in resource use and packaging to environmentally protection. Nestlé is better than Walmart is recycling. In balance, both Nestlé and Walmart are powerful multinational companies and their actions are useful and beneficial for environmental protection on the basis of their CSR’s policy. However, according to compare and assess, Walmart is more environmentally responsible than Nestlé in general because Walmart’s actions are more extensive range and more specific to environmental protection.
